New Mexico scores seven un-answered as Broncos strand 10 runners
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Boise State softball team dropped the opening game of the series to New Mexico in a 7-4 loss, Thursday night at Lobo Softball Field.
Rebekah Cervantes hit a solo home run in the top of the first, while the Broncos (26-9, 6-7 MW) added a pair of runs in the second inning for a 3-0 lead.
New Mexico (12-29, 3-10 MW) would power back for seven unanswered runs – including three home runs to take the lead. The Broncos launched a late-inning comeback that would ultimately fall short. Karlee Johnson led off the top of the sixth with a double, and reached home on a double from Alison Seng on the next at-bat. Boise State would manage to load the bases in the inning, but with two outs already in the inning they didn't manage to get a run across.
The Broncos left a total of 10 runners on base in the game, as they lost despite out-hitting the Lobos. Â Johnson, Morgan Lamb and Serena Huchingson would all go 2-for-4 at the plate on the night.
Boise State will look to even the series, Friday night at 4 p.m. MT.
