Ostrander to contest steeplechase-5k double for third-straight season; Fuller sets school record to qualify in the 1,500-meter
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Boise State track and field team punched two more tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships to close out the weekend. A night after qualifying in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Allie Ostrander was able to take home the top performance in the 5,000-meter, while Alexis Fuller qualified in the 1,500-meter for the second-straight year.
Fuller posted the fifth-fastest time in the region in the 1,500-meter to secure one of the five automatic bids from her heat. The senior held steady in the middle of the pack to establish good position, and used a strong final lap to ensure she wouldn't need to advance on time.Â
She bettered her school record with a 4:11.18 effort to finish fourth in the first heat.
Ostrander will now attempt the steeplechase-5k double for the third-straight season. The redshirt junior positioned herself towards the front of the lead pack from the gun, and was able to pull ahead of Stanford's Olivia O'Keefe in the final mile to win in 15:30.94.
The Broncos will now send three athletes to the National Championships, June 6-9, in Austin, Texas. Kristie Schoffield qualified in the 800-meter on Friday.
