Broncos Down Nevada to Open Conference Play

RENO, Nev. - Senior Raimee Sherle and junior Aubree Chatterton combined for two goals to lead the Boise State women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack, Friday night. The Broncos are now 9-1 on the season and open 1-0 in conference play.

"Difficult place to play, difficult game, that is kinda the script for Mountain West play," said head coach Jim Thomas.

Sherle netted her eighth goal of the season in the 24th minute to put Boise State up 1-0, which the Broncos carried into the half. She later assisted on Chatterton's goal to notch her sixth assist of the year.

Chatterton would add to Boise State's lead with another goal in the 64th minute. She now has four goals on the year, good enough for second highest on the team.

The Bronco defense remained strong throughout allowing just two shots on goal, with one sneaking past for a Nevada goal in the 87th minute.

Late in the match, Nevada sent its goalkeeper forward to add to the attack. However, Boise State keeper Sydney Smith locked down the box for the final three minutes and secured her ninth victory of the year.

"I think Nevada made it really tough on us to get the things we are used to getting, but I am really proud of our team to overcome that, play better in a tough game and go 1-0 on the day," explained Thomas.

The Broncos close out the split weekend by returning home to Boise to host the UNLV Rebels at Boas Soccer Complex, Sunday, at 1 p.m. MT.
