BOISE, Idaho -Â Boise State closes out its road week, looking to salvage the two-game road trip with a win Saturday at Nevada.
LAST TIME OUT
Boise State dropped its second-straight contest, and fell to fourth place in the Mountain West standings, with a 74-61 loss at San José State.
The Broncos led early, but cold shooting did them in, as they finished the game shooting a season-low 33.8 percent.
Forward A'Shanti Coleman led the Broncos with her first-career double-double, going for 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Jayde Christopher passed out nine assists. Guard Jade Loville also provided 10 points off the bench.
WHO'S NEXT
The Broncos hope to salvage the week with a win Saturday, traveling to Reno to go for the season sweep against Nevada.
The Wolf Pack, however, are coming off of a 74-63 win over Colorado State which stopped a two-game skid. Essence Booker leads the Wolf Pack with 11.6 points per game, while Marguerite Effa scores 11.4 points a game and grabs a team-best 6.0 rebounds per game.
SERIES HISTORY
Boise State leads the all-time series against  Nevada, 43-17, and has won six in a row over the Spartans.
The Broncos will go for the season sweep of the Wolf Pack Saturday, after claiming a 54-40 win in Boise back on Jan. 4.
SECOND GO-AROUND
With Wednesday's game in San Jose in the books, Boise State's remaining eight games of Mountain West play will be return matchups.
That tour of rematches begins this Saturday at Nevada, with the Broncos going for the season sweep of the Wolf Pack.
Also significant over these next eight games is that the Broncos will attempt to avoid being swept themselves by a conference opponent when they rematch with Wyoming (Feb. 5), San José State (Feb. 19), and UNLV (Feb. 24).
The Broncos haven't suffered an 0-2 season sweep against a Mountain West opponent since dropping both meetings with Colorado State in 2015-16.
IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Boise State has found itself, as well as a handful of players, ranked fairly high in early national stat rankings through Jan. 26.
As a team, the Broncos rank 11th in assists (377). The Broncos' 44.5 field-goal percentage ranks 34th, and the team's 160 3-pointers are 34th in the country.
Individually, redshirt senior point guard Jayde Christopher leads the nation with 171 assists, and is second with 7.77 assists per game. Senior guard Riley Lupfer is seventh in the country with 66 3-pointers made, and 15th with 3.00 triples made per game.
COLEMAN HAS ANOTHER BIG NIGHT IN THE BAY
San Francisco native A'Shanti Coleman made her annual return to the Bay Area with Wednesday's trip to San José State, and, as has been the case against the Spartans, filled the stat sheet.
In front of a sizable group of family and friends, Coleman posted her first-career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, despite the Bronco loss.
In four-career games against the Spartans now, Coleman averages 15.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and shoots 52.7 percent (29-for-55) from the field.
HOMECOMING WEEK CONTINUES
First it was San Francisco native A'Shanti Coleman making her return to the Bay Area with Wednesday's game at San José State. Now, for the second time this week, another Bronco will make her homecoming, as Reno native Mallory McGwire faces Nevada for the first time in Reno.
In the first meeting against the Wolf Pack on Jan. 4, McGwire posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, and blocked three shots in the 54-40 Boise State win.
McGwire played her prep hoops at Reno High School, alongside former Bronco Shay Shaw, being named Nevada's Gatorade Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior. She helped lead Reno High to state titles as a sophomore and junior, and to the state semifinals in her senior year.
RELIABLE FROM THE LINE
Boise State seems to have fixed one of its issues from early in the year, as the team is just about nails from the free-throw line.
After failing to hit at least 70.0 percent of its free throws in seven of its first 13 games, the Broncos have had nine-straight contests of at least 70.0 percent performance from the stripe.
Boise State went 9-for-10 from the line Wednesday in San Jose, and over this nine-game stretch have put up a perfect 10-for-10 performance (Jan. 8 at UNLV) and a 19-for-20 effort (Jan. 11 against San Diego State).
STRONG ON THE BOARDS
Boise State has hit the glass with more intensity over the past few games, grabbing at least 40 rebounds in three of its past four contests.
After grabbing 42 Wednesday at San José State, the Broncos have now posted eight games of at least 40 rebounds, with three 50-rebound efforts, including a high of 52 in the Jan. 4 meeting against Nevada.
AVOIDING THREE-STRAIGHT MW LOSSES
Wednesday's loss at San José State was Boise State's second-straight defeat in Mountain West play, and the first time in two years that the Broncos had dropped back-to-back conference games (Jan. 3 at New Mexico, Jan. 6 vs. Wyoming).
A win Saturday at Nevada would avoid Boise State's first three-game conference losing streak since a four-game slide from Feb. 10-24, 2016.
FIRST QUARTER LOCKDOWN
Boise State's defense has done a solid job locking opponents down early, enabling the Broncos to get out to early leads.
Over the last eight games, Bronco foes have combined to shoot just 30.6 percent (37-for-121) in the first quarter. Most recently, San José State went just 5-for-16 in the first quarter of Wednesday's game.
No team over that span has made more than six field goals in the opening frame, with Nevada (Jan. 4) the only opponent to reach that number.
CLIMBING UP THE CAREER LIST
Redshirt senior point guard Jayde Christopher has skyrocketed up the Boise State career assists list in her Bronco career, a feat made even more impressive by the fact that she's only played 55 games in the Blue and Orange.
Christopher, with 353 career assists at Boise State (2018-present), already ranks fifth all-time in program history, and is already just 37 away from the No. 3 spot held by Marta Hermida (390).
This season, Christopher's 171 assists are already fourth-most in program single-season history, and, averaging 7.77 assists per game this year, the Federal Way, Wash., native is well within range of the single-season record of 192 set by Yaiza Rodriguez in 2016-17.
