BOISE, Idaho -Â The Boise State football team, nationally ranked after a 42-13 season-opening win over Utah State, will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo., to square off against Air Force, Saturday (Oct. 31).
The Broncos (1-0, 1-0 MW), ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press Poll, and Falcons (0-1, 0-1 MW) are slated to kick at 4:02 p.m., and the game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
TRICK OR TREAT
Boise State has won each of its last two Halloween match-ups, defeating San Jose State (45-7) at home in 2009, and UNLV (55-27) on the road in 2015.
WINNINGEST PROGRAM
With its season-opening victory, Boise State took over as the winningest program in college football history (by winning percentage). The Broncos are 461-170-2 (.7299) all-time, edging Ohio State (925-326-53; .7297) for the top spot. Michigan (963-346-36; .7294).
BACK IN THE RANKINGS
After checking into the 2020 season with a 42-13 victory over Utah State, Boise State cracked the top 25 of the Associated Press Poll in advance of this week's game at Air Force. Boise State has been ranked for at least one week in each of the last 19 seasons, tied with USC for the seventh-longest streak in the country. Ohio State (53), Georgia (24), Wisconsin (24), Oregon (23), Oklahoma (22) and LSU (21) are the only schools with longer such streaks. Boise State is 118-21 (.849) all-time when nationally ranked.
CONSECUTIVE CONFERENCE WINS
Boise State has won 10-consecutive Mountain West games, the third-longest streak in the country for a school over conference opponents. Only Clemson (28) and Ohio State (16) have longer streaks.
The streak is also Boise State's longest against MW opposition since joining the conference in 2011. The previous best streak was nine, which began with a 51-46 win at Nevada on Oct. 4, 2014, and ended with a 52-26 loss at Utah State on Oct. 16, 2015.
The current 10-game run began with 2019's conference-opening 30-19 win over Air Force on Sept. 20. Last year, the Broncos went 8-0 in regular-season play before extending the streak to nine games with a 31-10 win over Hawai'i in the Mountain West Championship Game.
MOUNTAIN DIVISION DOMINANCE
Saturday's 42-13 win over Utah State was Boise State's 16th-straight against a fellow Mountain Division team in the Mountain West. The Broncos will put that streak on the line this Saturday at Air Force, which coincidentally enough is the last divisional foe to beat Boise State, grabbing a 27-20 victory on Nov. 25, 2016, at the Academy.
During this current 16-game intra-divisional run, the Broncos have an average margin of victory of 18.7 points, with 12 wins coming by double digits.
WHAT A TRIO
The 42-13 victory over Utah State showcased what can be considered Boise State's "Big 3" in sophomore quarterback Hank Bachmeier, sophomore running back George Holani, and junior wide receiver Khalil Shakir.
Bachmeier was masterful in the win, accounting for four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) while going 20-for-28 for 263 yards through the air. Holani hit the century mark on the dot, finishing at 100 rushing yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries for an average of 7.1 yards a pop. He also caught three passes for 33 yards and another score. Shakir, meanwhile, caught seven passes for a career-high 123 yards and two scores.
