Broncos Crack Century Mark in Big Win

12/31/2020 9:28:00 PM | Men's Basketball

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Boise State recorded its largest margin of victory in a conference game in program history, defeating San Jose State 106-54 Thursday, at Ability 360 in Phoenix. Six Broncos scored in double figures, led by 23 points from Derrick Alston, Jr., his fourth straight 20-point game.

Boise State (7-1, 3-0 Mountain West) is riding a seven-game win streak for the first time since 2016-17, and has won each of its first three conference games by at least 24 points. It is the second time in school history the Broncos have won three consecutive conference games by at least 20 points, matching a three-game streak by the 1986-87 team.

Alston had 13 points in the first half, helping stake the Broncos to a 54-29 lead. He drilled two three-pointers in the first 70 seconds of the second half and Boise State never looked back.

Abu Kigab recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Marcus Shaver, Jr. scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Emmanuel Akot (13), RayJ Dennis (13) and Max Rice (11) also finished in double figures.

San Jose State (1-5, 0-3 MW) shot 23.8 percent from the floor and was limited to 3-for-26 shooting from three-point range (11.5 percent). The Spartans scored 21 of their 54 points at the free throw line.

The Broncos made all 25 of their free throw attempts, with seven different players contributing from the stripe. Their 25 makes are the second most without a miss in program history.

The Broncos and Spartans meet again Saturday, in the second game of the series. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. MT, at Grand Canyon. The game will be televised by FS1.
