Rich has been a vital asset to the program in coaching and recruiting over his first two-plus years.
BOISE, Idaho - Boise State's head softball coach Maggie Huffaker announced Monday that Andrew Rich has been promoted to associate head coach. Rich has played a key role in the Broncos' success over the last two seasons in his outstanding coaching and recruiting abilities.
"Andrew has proven to be such a valuable asset to our program and Boise State University," said Huffaker. "I've been so lucky to have all three of our coaches step up during this crazy time, and Andrew has really taken the lead. He's a tireless worker, a constant and keen recruiter, and someone that our student-athletes really respect and enjoy working with. We are excited to give him the new well deserved title."
"I am thrilled to accept this new position here with our program," said Rich. "We've accomplished some great things in a short time together and I really believe that bigger things are on the way for Boise State softball. I can't thank Maggie and our senior staff enough for this opportunity. I'm excited to get back to work with our student-athletes and get the 2021 season started."
As a member of Huffaker's first staff in 2019, Rich helped guide the Broncos to a 36-16 overall record, an at-large berth into the NCAA tournament and an appearance in the NCAA regional championship series. Over the first two years of his tenure, the Blue and Orange has recorded two winning seasons and has gone a combined 50-27 overall.
In addition, Rich has played an active role in the program's recruiting process helping the Broncos to back-to-back nationally ranked classes. After a No. 27 rank by Extra Inning Softball in 2019, this year's class was 25th and included the entire class being ranked individually in the top 100 nationally.
During his two years assisting Huffaker, the Broncos have earned numerous honors including three NFCA All-Region and eight All-Mountain West accolades. Academically, the team has earned one NFCA Academic Team Award, nine NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete accolades, 29 Academic All-MW and 20 MW Scholar-Athlete (3.5 or better cumulative GPA) honors.
