
Boise State Wins the Battle of the Broncos 11-6 Over Santa Clara

Seven run second inning propels Boise State to win.
The victory over Santa Clara improved Boise State to 2-0 on the season with an encounter with one of the tournament hosts, UC Davis, scheduled for later this afternoon.Â
Boise State wins the battle of the Broncos defeating Santa Clara 11-6 to improve to 2-0 on the year! Huchingson's three-run homer in the second inning highlighted the win.

Boise State wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard Friday versus Santa Clara taking a quick 2-0 lead in the first. The inning started off with Ashlyn Adams getting walked. Two batters later, Jessica McKay was also walked giving the Blue and Orange runners of first and second. Then with two outs, Alison Seng doubled to center field scoring both Adams and McKay.Â
The Broncos exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second to take a 9-0 advantage over Santa Clara. With the bases loaded and no outs, Adams singled to right field bringing home India Kelly and Kelsey Lalor for a 4-0 lead.Â
The next batter was Karlee Johnson who had two runners on second and third. Johnson reached base on an error by the second baseman, scoring both Autumn Bennett and Adams to make it 6-0 Boise State.
The final runs of the second came when Huchingson hammered the ball over the left field fence for her first home run of the season, scoring both Johnson from third and Seng from second to spot the Broncos a 9-0 lead.Â
After Santa Clara scored four runs in the top of the third, Boise State responded in the bottom of the fourth. With runners on first and third, Huchingson hit a sacrifice fly out to left field bring home Bradie Fillmore from third.Â
Next, Emily Alandt stole second base to get into scoring position. Bella Rocco stepped to the plate and singled to right field scoring Alandt. Boise State took an 11-4 lead into the fifth. Â
Santa Clara would end up scoring two more runs in the fifth to make the final score 11-6 Boise State.Â
Freshman Jordan Schuring came into the game in relief with two out in the third, she then held Santa Clara off from the mound to claim her first collegiate win.Â
Seng led the Bronco offense going four-for-four at the plate recording one run and two RBIs. Huchingson and Rocco each tallied two hits while three others had one apiece.Â
