Boise State found itself in an early 3-0 hole when the Hornets scored three in the first inning. It could have been worse for Boise State if not for a key throw by Kelsey Lalor in right field. The junior caught a sacrifice fly then proceeded to throw a line drive to Serena Huchingson, playing catcher, for the tag out to end the inning.Â
The Broncos eventually battled back with two runs in the third powered by Adams' home run.  After Autumn Bennett had singled to left field, Adams hammered her second homer of the day — the first was against UC Santa Barbara — to right field cutting the deficit to one run, 3-2.
Boise State still trailed 3-2 heading into the top of the seventh when Jessica McKay brought in the tying run. With two outs and two runners on, Bennett on second and Adams on first, McKay singled to center field scoring Bennett to tie the score. Unfortunately, the Broncos were unable to capitalize on the two batters left on base.Â
Meanwhile, Sacramento State went three up and three down in the bottom of the seventh to force the game into extra innings.Â
Boise State was held without a run and Fillmore stranded on third in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the inning Sacramento State came back for the 4-3 win when Katie Vretzos crossed home plate with one out.
Adams and Bennett led Boise State in hitting tallying two hits each, while four others recorded one apiece. Micaela Leal entered the game in the bottom of the first inning with two outs. The senior was solid, pitching shutout ball through six innings until the winning run in the eighth, which came off a fielding error. Boise State left seven runners on base, while Sacramento State stranded six.Â
