Ohlinger and Wissinger lead Boise State past the Aztecs on Saturday.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Boise State went four sets Saturday afternoon in defeating the San Diego State Aztecs 25-21, 16-25, 25-20, 26-24 on the road in a Mountain West volleyball match. Lauren Ohlinger led the Broncos with a team-high 19 kills, while Alyssa Wissinger added a career-high and team-best 11 blocks.Â
San Diego State out hit the Broncos .255 percent for 63 kills to .214 percent for 45 kills, but Boise State's serving and blocking proved big in the victory. The Broncos recorded seven service aces to two for SDSU and had 17 blocks to the Aztecs' nine.Â
Ohlinger finished the contest with a team-high 23 points and hit a solid .364 percent. In addition to her 19 kills, she tallied two service aces, six digs and four block assists.Â
No other Bronco recorded double-digit kills. Wissinger followed Ohlinger with seven kills to go with her monster day at the net with 11 blocks — one solo — to finish with 13 points.Â
Freshmen Paige Bartsch and Jordan Miller each added six kills. Bartsch also had two block assists while Miller had three.
Danielle Boss recorded a double-double from the setter position on 38 assists and 13 digs to go with three kills and five block assists. Allison Casillas finished with a team-high 14 digs.Â
The first two sets were dominated by the team that won the set with Boise State leading the entire way in the opener, while San Diego State led the second set from the start.Â
Both the third and fourth periods saw seven ties and four lead changes. Down 7-6 in the third, Boise State rolled off a 6-0 run — powered by two Jolei Akima service aces and a kill and block by Wissinger — to surge into the lead for good.Â

Leading 2-1 in the match, Boise State rallied from 19-15 down in the fourth to edge the Aztecs out in extra points 26-24. Ohlinger led the rally recording four kills and clinched the victory with her second service ace, while Wissinger added a kill and two block assists.Â

The win was the second straight for the Broncos who improved to 17-8 overall and 6-6 in MW action. Next up for the Blue and Orange is a two-match homestand against New Mexico and Air Force this coming Thursday and Saturday.Â
