Bartsch leads Boise State to win by hitting .750 percent for team-high 10 kills.
BOISE, Idaho - Boise State volleyball put on a clinic Thursday night as the Broncos cruised to a 3-0 sweep over the New Mexico Lobos in Bronco Gym. The Broncos opened on fire and never let up as they hit .514 percent — the third-best hitting performance all-time in school history — and held New Mexico to a negative .038 percent. The Broncos trailed only twice in the entire match at 1-0 and 2-1 in the second set, in a match that was otherwise a complete domination of the Lobos.
"I am really happy with the energy that the team came out with tonight against a really good New Mexico team," said head coach Shawn Garus. "What I'm most excited about was the way the entire team maintained that energy from start to finish. Everyone contribute to this victory, especially Paige (Bartsch). She had her best night hitting this season, she was focused and ready to play from the beginning. We will enjoy this win tonight, then tomorrow we will turn our attention towards another solid team in Air Force, who comes in here Saturday night."
The win was the third straight for Boise State who improved to 18-8 overall and 7-6 in Mountain West Conference play, while New Mexico moved to 17-7 and 8-5 in league.
In all three sets the Blue and Orange wasted little time in pulling away from New Mexico. Their offense hit .583 percent in the first set, .385 percent in the second and .600 percent in the third. Boise State made only five hitting errors in the entire match to go with 41 kills on 70 attacks. New Mexico had 19 kills and 22 errors on 79 attacks.
Paige Bartsch and Alyssa Wissinger tied for the team-high in points on the night with 11.5 apiece. Bartsch – who hit a career-high .750 percent — added three block assists to her kills, while Wissinger had nine kills and team-high five block assists.
Lauren Ohlinger and Jordan Miller each recorded seven kills. Ohlinger also had one service ace and one block assist.
Danielle Boss tallied 31 assists from the setter position to go with three kills, one service ace, six digs and four block assists. Defensively, Allison Casillas recorded a team-high 10 digs.
Kaitlyn Biassou led New Mexico with nine kills, no one else had more than four for the Lobos.
Next up for Boise State is a 7 p.m. (Mountain) encounter on Saturday night with Air Force in Bronco Gym.
