The Bronco senior advanced three rounds in singles at the ITA All-American Championships to lead Boise State.

TULSA, Okla. - Boise State senior Simon Arca Costas opened the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) All-American Championships with a pair of victories over opponents from Tennessee and Arizona to reach the tournament's qualifying round of 64 in Tulsa, Okla.

"Great weekend for the Broncos at Tulsa all in all," said associate head coach Ali Borhani. "For Kyryll who is coming off double calf surgery in the summer, he knows what he needs to do now to get back to his best level. And for Simon, there aren't enough superlatives to describe how he played. It was amazing to see him get two ranked wins and show the country how good he is. He can play with anyone out there. Coach K (Kristian Widen) and I are very proud of how both players represented the Broncos this week."

Arca Costas was one of two Broncos competing at this prestigious event along with Kyryll Kryvchun. They both played competition that is among the best nationally including a few that have been ranked over the last two semesters.

"This week was very good for me, I played some very high level tennis," said Arca Costas. "I really found myself comfortable on the court and I was able to win some matches against very good players. So happy to be able to represent our school at this prestigious tournament. Bleed Blue!"

Arca Costas opened with a big victory over current No. 95 Emile Hudd from the University of Tennessee. After coming up short in a set-one tiebreaker, the Bronco senior regrouped and grew more dominant as the match wore on, rallying to defeat Hudd in three sets 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-1 to advance.

In the round of 128, Arca Costas once again found himself down early after dropping the opening set. The native of Vigo, Spain, battled back one more time to defeat Arizona's Filipe Malbasic — ranked as high as No. 54 last spring — in a tight contest 2-6, 7-5, 7-5.

Unfortunately, Francois Musitelli of Kentucky ended Arca Costas' run at the ITA All-American in the round of 64 handing the Bronco a 6-3, 6-1 defeat.

Kryvchun also competed in singles play as he faced Daniel De Jonge from Pepperdine in the opener falling in two 6-4, 6-2. The Bronco then took on current 76th-ranked David Stevenson from Memphis in the consolation round of 64 where he fell 6-3, 6-4.

Arca Costas and Kryvchun, as well as the rest of the Broncos, will be back in action one more time this fall on Oct. 29-31 at the Bulldog Invitational in Spokane, Wash., hosted by Gonzaga.
