THIS WEEK IN BRONCO VOLLEYBALL
WHAT'S HAPPENING: Boise State heads into the week looking for its 20th win of the season as the Broncos currently sit at 19-8 overall and 8-6 in Mountain West play, tied for fourth. This week Boise State hits the road for the final time in the regular season as the Broncos travel to face Nevada (3-22, 0-14 MW) at Reno on Thursday night at 7 p.m (Mountain) in the Virginia Street Gym, then head to San Jose State (16-8, 10-4 MW) for a Saturday afternoon encounter at 2 p.m. (MT) in Spartan Gym.Â
SCOUTING BOISE STATE: The Broncos enter the weekend on a four match win streak and coming off a two-match home sweep over New Mexico (W 3-0) and Air Force (W 3-0). Through 27 matches, Boise State is led by Lauren Ohlinger who has recorded team highs for kills (359), service aces (45) and points (431.5). The junior outside hitter leads the MW and is ranked 49th nationally for kills, ninth nationally for total service aces (2nd MW) and 37th in total points (2nd MW). Makayla Hansen follows with 165 kills and 75 blocks. Alyssa Wissinger is third with 154 kills and 116 blocks (1st MW).
As a team, Boise State hits .263 percent (2nd MW / 29th NCAA) and holds opponents to .193 percent (3rd MW). The Broncos average 12.58 kills per set (8th MW), 2.72 blocks (1st MW / 10th NCAA) and 1.87 service aces (2nd MW / 17th NCAA). Boise State leads the MW and is second nationally for total blocks (275.0) and is first in the MW and fifth in NCAA for total service aces (189).Â
SCOUTING NEVADA: The Wolf Pack has struggled this year entering the week at 3-22 overall and 0-14 in conference play. They are coming off a of road losses last week at Colorado State (L 3-0) and at Wyoming (L 3-0). Kyla Waiters leads Nevada with 228 kills followed by Sydney Petersen with 199. As a team, Nevada hits .148 percent (11th MW) while their opponents have hit .265 (11th MW). Nevada was picked to place 11th in the 2021 MW race.Â
THE NEVADA SERIES: Â The all-time series is led by Boise State at 35-29 overall. The Broncos won the first meeting this year 3-1 in Boise (Oct. 2). Boise State leads the series in contests played at Reno 18-15. In addition, the Broncos also lead the conference series 29-27 which spans five different leagues (Mountain West Athletic, Big Sky, Big West, Western Athletic and Mountain West).
THE LAST TIME THE BRONCOS AND WOLF PACK MET: Â BOISE, Idaho (Oct. 2) - Boise State used a balanced offensive attack to defeat the Nevada Wolf Pack in four sets 3-1 (25-12, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20). Boise State hit the ball well finishing at .341 percent while holding Nevada to .178 percent. The Broncos were led by Lauren Ohlinger with a team-high 14 kills followed by Paige Bartsch with 12 and Kayly Pau with 11. Nevada was led by Sia Liilii with 12 kills and Sydney Petersen with 11.
SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE: Last week the Spartans split on the road defeating Wyoming (Nov. 4) 3-2 before seeing its seven-match win streak end at Colorado State (Nov. 6) in a sweep at the hands of the Rams. San Jose State enters the week at 16-8 overall and 10-4 in league. Haylee Nelson leads the Spartans on the year with 305 kills (5th MW) followed by Latahevai Lousi with 225. As a team, SJSU hits .204 percent (8th MW) while their opponents have hit .200 percent (5th MW). San Jose State was picked to place eighth in the 2021 Mountain West race.Â
THE SAN JOSE STATE SERIES: Â This will be the second meeting of the year between the Broncos and Spartans with San Jose State winning 3-2 the first time around in Boise (Sept. 30). Boise State leads the all-time series 21-19 and leads the series in contests played at San Jose 10-9. In addition, the Broncos also lead the conference series 19-17 which spans two different leagues (Western Athletic and Mountain West).
THE LAST TIME VERSUS SAN JOSE STATE: Â BOISE, Idaho. (Sept. 30) - Lauren Ohlinger led Boise State with 15 kills, but that was not enough as the Broncos were edged in five sets 28-26, 15-25, 7-25, 25-21, 15-13 by San Jose State in Bronco Gym. Boise State rallied from a set down to take a 2-1 match lead after hitting .433 percent in the second set and .571 percent in the third. Unfortunately, the Broncos went cold in the last two sets as the Spartans rallied to win the final two periods to take the match 3-2. Latahevai Lousi led SJSU with 18 kills and Haylee Nelson added 17.

BOSS AT SETTER: Senior Danielle Boss entered the season ranked ninth all-time and fifth in the rally scoring era (RSE) for career assists at Boise State with 2,151. She has opened the season with 898 to move into seventh place overall and fourth in RSE with 3,049.
WISSINGER LEADS MW AND NATIONALLY RANKED FOR BLOCKS: Alyssa Wissinger is ranked first in the Mountain West and 23rd in NCAA for blocks per set at 1.33, she also leads the MW and is 21st nationally  for total blocks with 116. Â
BOSS LEADS LEAGUE IN ASSISTS: Dani Boss is ranked first in the MW for total assists with 898 and is second for assists per set at 10.20. Â

DONAHUE TIES RALLY SCORING ERA BLOCKS RECORD:Â Jessica Donahue has tied Sadie Maughan's (2007-10) school record for career blocks during the rally scoring era (RSE) with 420. She recorded two at Fresno State (Oct. 21) to tie the mark.
