Boise State Picked Fourth in MW Race

BOISE, Idaho  – The Boise State softball team has been picked to place fourth out of nine teams in the 2021 Mountain West Conference. The MW released the 2021 Preseason Coaches Poll Wednesday which placed the Broncos in the middle of the pack, Fresno State was tabbed as the conference favorite.

Boise State returns seven starters and two pitchers from the 2020 campaign that saw the Broncos go 14-11. In addition, they welcomed back 13 veterans while adding two transfers and eight freshmen.

Leading the returners are two 2020 All-MW honorees in Karlee Johnson and Alison Seng. The duo started all 25 games in 2020 combining for 52 hits, 24 runs, 29 RBI and three home runs. Defensively, they combined for 205 putouts.

Fresno State earned 64 points and eight of nine first-place votes. The Bulldogs return eight starters and three pitchers from last year's squad that finished the shortened 2020 season with a 21-4 mark and ranked in the national polls. UNLV was selected to finish in second place with 52 points and the remaining first-place vote.
 
San Diego State was voted third with 49 points, Boise State in fourth with 41 points, San José State in fifth with 38 points, Colorado State in sixth with 33 points, Nevada and Utah State tied for seventh with 18 points each and New Mexico in ninth with 11 points.
 
The 2021 softball season begins on Friday, Feb. 12.
