LA JOLLA, Calif. - Boise State men's tennis cruised to a 4-0 victory Friday afternoon over UC San Diego out of the Big West Conference. The Broncos claimed a tough doubles point 2-0 where all three matches were tight with the two deciding contests going to the Broncos by 7-5 scores. Boise State then jumped on the Tritons early in singles recording wins from Caden Moortgat, Simon Arca Costas and Lawrence Sciglitano, respectively, to earn the win.
The victory at UCSD improved Boise State to 9-1 overall and extended the Broncos win streak to seven. Next up for the Blue and Orange is the Mountain West Conference opener Saturday afternoon at San Diego State.

"I thought our team came out really good considering that we were playing outdoors for the first time in a long, long time," said head coach Kristian Widen. "The elements were not perfect today, it was quite windy, but the guys handled that really well. We came out hot in doubles, then we cooled off and had to come back out and bring the heat at the end to close doubles out. Overall it was a great team performance. I thought that Caden (Moortgat), Simon (Arca Costas), Blake (Bayldon) and Lawrence Sciglitano played really well. We took it to them right away in singles, which you can see in the scores, we won a lot of first sets. I believe these guys are definitely ready for conference to start tomorrow."

Boise State gained the early momentum by taking the team doubles with wins on courts one and two, respectively. Arca Costas and Blake Bayldon remain undefeated on the year at 5-0 with a 7-5 victory over UCSD's Zach Ermert and Daniel Traxler at No. 1 doubles.

Not long after, Moortgat and Michael Bott clinched the team point with a 7-5 win on court two over Cody Duong and Marc Isaia.

Moortgat opened singles with the first win of the match on court six where the freshman dominated William Lan in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Arca Costas moved the Broncos to within one of victory when he downed Ermert 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Both Moortgat (3-0) and Arca Costas (7-0) remain perfect in singles play this spring.

The match clincher came on court five where Sciglitano defeated UCSD's Isaia in two sets 6-2, 6-4. Sciglitano's victory improved his singles mark to 8-1 overall.

The other three singles contests were abandoned once the team victory was clinched.
