BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women's tennis team welcomed back fans for the first time this season as it swept the College of Idaho 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Tennis Center.
"Our team has been doing a good job of putting together complete matches and bringing a lot of great energy," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "It's been their efforts in training every day and making this the standard that we set every day. It was also great to be outdoors and back in front of fans again, that was pretty special for us."
As it has done all season, Boise State's doubles attack came out and set the tone for the rest of the match. Pauline Ernstberger and Holly Stewart continued their undefeated run, winning 6-0 on court two to improve to 7-0 on the season. Ana Conde Vendrell and Nicole Discenza also remain undefeated this season as they were victorious on court three over Alex Fisher and Morgan Leavitt. Joana Baptista and Shauna Heffernan improved to 6-1 on the year with a 6-1 win over Lauren Kreutzer and Taylor Johnson, and just like that the Broncos entered singles play with a 1-0 match advantage.
The Broncos finished their singles matches at lightning pace they finished each court in straight-set fashion. Baptista, Heffernan and Discenza each won their matches 6-0, 6-0 on courts one, four and five, respectively as the Blue and Orange jumped out to a 4-0 lead and clinched its fifth victory of the year.
Next to finish was Stewart on court two as she took down the Yotes' Taylor Johnson 6-1, 6-2, while Ana Conde Vendrell took care of business on court six, winning 6-1, 6-0. Vanessa Timm was able to bring the Bronco sweep to fruition, defeating Leiana Almaraz 6-1, 6-0 on court three to finish off a dominant Bronco performance in front of a great home crowd.
"I know our players really loved it and appreciated Bronco Nation coming out here," said Roghaar. "We're just thankful for everybody that puts in all the work to make that stuff happen for our student-athletes here at Boise State and I'm thankful to Bronco nation for being so patient, sticking with us and coming out as soon as they could."
Up next for the Broncos will be a home match against Montana State next Saturday, March 20th at Appleton Tennis Center.
