The Boise State women's tennis team began Mountain West play on the right foot, sweeping Air Force 4-0 Saturday morning in Albuquerque.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Boise State's women's tennis team was victorious in its first Mountain West match of the year, defeating Air Force in a 4-0 sweep Saturday morning in Albuquerque.

"Really solid effort from our group today," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "With six of our players playing their first ever conference match, to come out and perform the way they did says a lot about who they are and the training they've done to prepare themselves. We were able to handle the elements well and take control of the match early, and it was awesome to watch the team put their foot on the gas pedal and compete the Bronco Way."

The Broncos got off to a hot start in the doubles matches as they won the first two courts to clinch the early 1-0 lead. Pauline Ernstberger and Holly Stewart extended their undefeated streak to 9-0 with a 6-1 victory on court two, while Shauna Heffernan and Joana Baptista bounced back from last week's loss to win 6-3 over the Falcons' Meredith Jones and Ksenia Vasilyev on court one.

Heffernan kept the ball rolling for the Broncos in singles play, defeating Mebeli Becerra in straight-sets 6-1, 6-3 to extend her team's lead 2-0. Ernstberger followed closely behind, dominating her court-two match 6-1, 6-1 to put the Broncos in a position to clinch their first conference match of the year.

With a chance to seal a big win for her team, redshirt-junior Vanessa Timm stepped up to the challenge and defeated Air Force's Shailla Alda 6-2, 6-1 to put the match away. Timm's win now gives her 49 career singles victories, giving her a chance to become the 31st Bronco to join the 50 singles-victories club.

Boise State now faces a quick turnaround as it shifts its focus to a contest against New Mexico tomorrow at 1 p.m.
