Boise State Drops Two at TCU Invitational

The Broncos came up on the short end of two scores on Saturday in Fort Worth, falling 4-1 to Tulane and 5-0 to No. 7 TCU.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Boise State beach volleyball dropped a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the TCU Invitational at Fort Worth, Texas, falling 4-1 to Tulane and 5-0 to seventh-ranked TCU. The freshman tandem of Rorianna Chartier and Kaylee Mejia led the Broncos on the day recording the lone victory for the Blue and Orange versus Tulane. 

The losses moved the Broncos to 5-8 overall as they return home next week to host their final contests of the season as they welcome a trio of Pac-12 teams in No. 12 Arizona, Arizona State and Utah.


RECAP: Tulane 4, Boise State 1
Boise State battled the Green Waves to the end taking four of the five contests to three sets before falling 4-1. Chartier and Mejia led Boise State against Tulane by winning their contest at the No. 2 position. The tandem rallied from one set down to defeat Tulane's Kendall Peters and Eva Torruella 21-23, 21-17, 15-5. It was the third straight win in Texas for Chartier and Mejia.

Joey Benson and Sedona Hansen also rallied from a set down to force the match to a third set, but came up short to Avery Arellano and Tarin Mergener 21-16, 18-21, 15-11 on court three. Sierra Land and Katie Martin were the third Bronco pair to rally after dropping the opening set, but unfortunately, they were edged out in set three 21-17, 18-21, 15-13.

On court one, Boise State's Erin Martin and Evi Wilson won their first set, but could not pick up a second victory as they fell in three 21-23, 21-13, 15-12 to Tulane's Addie Hermstad and Samantha Mehlman.

RECAP: No. 7 TCU 5, Boise State 0
The final match of the tournament for Boise State was against the sixth nationally ranked opponent they have faced this season in No. 7 TCU. The match was all Horned Frogs as they swept Boise State 5-0. 

Chartier and Mejia suffered their first loss of the weekend at No. 2 pair 21-11, 21-12 to TCU's Olivia Blackburn and Hailey Brockett. Like that contest, all five of the matches were decided in straight sets to TCU who improved to 20-4 overall.
