Four of six singles matches went to three sets, but the Broncos came up short on Sunday.

FRESNO, Calif.  - Boise State took four of the six singles matches to three sets, but came up short in the end on Sunday as the Broncos fell 4-0 on the road to the Fresno State Bulldogs in a Mountain West Conference tennis match. Caden Moortgat and Lawrence Sciglitano recorded the lone victory for the Blue and Orange on Sunday as they won their No. 2 doubles match. With the loss, Boise State split on the road this weekend to move to 13-3 overall and 2-2 in conference.

In the final meeting between these two programs — Fresno State is dropping men's tennis after the season — the Bulldogs took the early lead by winning the doubles point 2-1 with wins on courts one and three. Moortgat and Sciglitano recorded their second win (2-0) of the season with a 6-4 victory over Fresno State's Dario Huber and Alex Myagov on court two.

Singles turned out to be a battle before it was all done. Fresno State claimed two straight-set wins at No. 3 and 4 singles to extend its lead to 3-0 over the Broncos.

Down three, Boise State still had a chance but needed to win the final four contests. The decisive win for the Bulldogs came on court two where Dario Huber defeated the Broncos' Simon Arca Costas in three 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, handing the Boise State redshirt-sophomore only his second defeat of the season.

The remaining three contests were abandoned once the team victory was clinched by Fresno State, but all three were in third sets as well.

At No. 1 singles, Blake Bayldon won the opening set, but was forced into a third by Zdenek Derkas and was trailing 6-4, 4-6, 0-3 when play was stopped. On court five, Wyatt DeMulling — who had won his 60th career singles match on Friday at Reno — was up on Alexey Aleshchev 6-2, 4-6, 4-3; meanwhile, Sciglitano held a slight lead over Fresno State's Reece Falck 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 when the action was suspended.

After two straight weeks on the road, the Broncos return home next week when they open a regular-season ending four-match homestand starting with Portland State on Thursday, followed by New Mexico on Friday and Air Force on Sunday.
