Broncos Down Rebels, Send Seniors off with a Win

4/11/2021 4:27:00 PM | Women's Soccer

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's soccer sent its two seniors off on a high note as the Broncos defeated the UNLV Rebels (5-3-1, 5-3-1 MW), 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Boas Soccer Complex.

"We were a complete unit today," said head coach Jim Thomas. "You can see why all the people that are coming out of the woodwork to play and how hard they play for something bigger than just the game or the three points that are on the line. They played so hard for Del [Delaney Watson] and Jaz [Jazel Bowers] today. They played so hard for Boise and Boise State. We really stuck together, 12 to 18 months of the weirdest time in the world and it will be understandable if you broke apart. You could see it today, there was no quit in this dog, there is no breaking apart at all. They continue to be a really really special group with a culture that I'm just so proud of them."

Boise State scored the lone goal in the match just 59 seconds into the match off the foot of freshman Morgan Miles. That score tied her for the fifth-fastest goal in school history, matching Raimee Sherle's goal in 2017 also against the Rebels. The goal was Miles' first of her collegiate career.

Despite being outshot by UNLV 10-7, Boise State maintained a 4-2 shots on goal advantage. In addition, the Bronco defense continued to stay strong in the face of seven Rebel corner kicks.

Despite losing defensive anchor Macie Nelson to a leg injury midway through the second half, the Broncos managed to earn their fifth shutout on the season and third 1-0 victory. Freshman goalkeeper Genvieve Crenshaw secured her third win on the season as well as third complete shutout.

"They care about the seniors," said Thomas. "They care about the program and the people within it more. They're willing to go to whatever lengths, whether you've been here for a few months, I mean some of the guys out here are just arriving, and they're completely committed to the same causes of people that have been here for four years, are committed to again, that's a group that's together.

The Broncos improved their record to 5-4-1 on the season, maintaining a streak of above .500 conference seasons under Thomas and extending it to five stretching back to 2016.
