Broncos Fall to Spartans

4/2/2021 11:59:00 PM | Women's Soccer

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Boise State women's soccer dropped a close match on the road to San Jose State, Friday night at Spartan Soccer Complex.

The Spartans (1-6-1, 1-6-1 MW) grabbed the lone goal in the match early when a ricocheted clearance by Boise State goalkeeper Genevieve Crenshaw hit the back of a San Jose State field player and bounced into the net.

"Obviously not the result we wanted today," said head coach Jim Thomas. "This is a learning opportunity for us to grow as a team and to overcome the challenges we face. Our goal all season has been to grow while winning, we weren't able to win tonight but we'll learn from it and be ready to go on Sunday."

The Broncos matched the Spartans in nearly every statistical category, finishing with 10 shots to 11 and four shots on goal to five for San Jose State. Corner kicks were even at four-a-side.

Despite having three shots on goal in the final half, Boise State was unable to find the equalizer to force overtime in the final minutes.

Boise State drops to 4-2-1, 4-2-1 MW on the season. The Broncos now head to Fresno for a Sunday showdown with the Fresno State Bulldogs at Noon MT.
