Geisler and De Caro Sweep the 5,000m, Broncos Shine on Day One

EUGENE, Ore. – Boise State track and field made a mark on the first day of the Oregon Relays, Friday. Under the bright lights of Hayward Field, the Broncos secured two individual victories, two seconds and a third.

Christina Geisler earned the first win of the day for the Broncos running in the women's 5,000-meters. The junior shaved over 30 seconds off her previous best time in the event and finished eight seconds ahead of the second-place runner.

In the very next race Dario De Caro completed the sweep of the 5,000m with a win in the men's race. He finished with a time of 13:59.43.

For the second-straight meet, Clare O'Brien reaffirmed her spot in the Boise State record book. She reset the third-fastest mark in program history in the women's 5,000m with a second-place finish in the 5,000m invite. The time of 15:37.87 currently stands as the sixth fastest in the NCAA this season. O'Brien held the previous third best school mark at 15:48.56.

Jonathan Shields used a strong kick on the final lap of the men's 1,500m invite to secure a second-place finish with a time of 3:44.24.

In the women's 1,500m, graduate student Nuria Tillo-Prats led six Broncos in the field with a third-place effort while the other five Boise State runners finished with personal bests.

The Broncos are back in action Saturday for day two of the Oregon Relays. The Broncos will begin with the women's 400m dash at 12:45 p.m. MT.
