BOISE, Idaho – Chiawana (Wash.) High School standout Kobe Young signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Boise State men's basketball program, head coach Leon Rice announced Tuesday. Young will enroll as a freshman this summer.

"Kobe is a phenomenal athlete, a great student and has a tremendous work ethic," Rice said. "He really catches your attention on the basketball court with his athleticism and ability to shoot the ball. Now we can bring him into a college basketball system and help him elevate his game. I am really excited to get him in our program and see the strides he will make when he can focus on basketball."

A multi-sport athlete at Chiawana in Pasco, Wash., Young is set to begin his pandemic-delayed senior basketball season this month.

The 6-foot-5 wing was recently ranked as the No. 12 basketball prospect in Washington according to Scorebook Live. Young also carries a three-star ranking as a wide receiver at 247Sports and was entertaining an offer to join the football program at Washington before signing with Boise State.

On the football field, Young helped the Riverhawks win three consecutive Mid-Columbia Conference championships. He was a second-team all-conference selection at wide receiver and defensive line this season.

Currently running track for Chiawana, Young recently ran an 11.14 in the 100 meters to rank second in the state of Washington. He also competes in the high jump.

Young missed the majority of his junior sports seasons due to injury.

Boise State has signed three incoming freshmen to National Letters of Intent for the upcoming year. Fellow Washingtonian Tyson Degenhart and Texas native R.J. Keene put pen to paper in November.
