BOISE STATE HEADS TO TCU INVITATIONAL

WHAT IS HAPPENING: The Broncos (4-5) are headed to Texas to participate in the TCU Invitational at Fort Worth where they will play four matches. The field includes the host school seventh-ranked TCU (17-4), Tulane (16-10) – who is receiving top-20 votes – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (10-9) and Houston Baptist (4-16). TCU will be the sixth top-20 team Boise State has faced this spring going 1-4 in the previous five.

THE SCHEDULE: Boise State will open action in Fort Worth early on Friday with a 7 a.m. (Mountain) start versus A&M-Corpus Christi, that will be followed by a 3:40 p.m. (MT) start with Houston Baptist to wrap up Friday's play. Saturday will start with 11:20 a.m. (MT) first serves versus Tulane with the tournament wrapping up against No. 7 TCU at 1:30 p.m. (MT).

BOISE STATE VERSUS THE FIELD: The Broncos are 0-2 all-time versus the field of the TCU Invitational. They have never faced Houston Baptist or TCU prior to this weekend. Meanwhile, they are 0-1 against Tulane falling to the Green Wave 4-1 in 2018 at Stanford, Calif. Boise State and A&M-Corpus Christi met earlier this season at the Cactus Classic in Tucson, Ariz., where the Islanders beat the Broncos 5-0 in the season opener for the Blue and Orange.

LAST WEEKEND

WHAT HAPPENED: Boise State traveled to Salem, Ore., last weekend where it competed in the Corban April AVCA Pairs Tournament. The Broncos went a combined 22-9 overall with two of the losses coming at the hands of Boise State teammates.

BRONCO LEADERS: The pair of Evi Wilson and Erin Martin went undefeated on the weekend going 6-0 and winning the Gold Bracket's championship in three sets 21-19, 13-21, 15-8 over the top team from the University of Washington. That same Husky pair defeated Wilson and Martin for the title at Corban's March AVCA Pairs Tournament. The team of Joey Benson and Sedona Hansen reached the Gold Bracket semifinals where they fell to Wilson and Erin Martin. While the pair of Kylee Johnson and Ellie McDonald went 4-1 overall, falling in the Silver Brackets' quarterfinals for their lone loss of the weekend.

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS

TOP PAIR: Boise State is led by its No. 1 pair of Erin Martin and Evi Wilson on the year in total matches played as the tandem enters the weekend at 13-7 overall after going 6-0 last weekend to win the top bracket title at Corban's April AVCA Pairs Tournament, they are 8-2 in their last 10 contests and 3-6 in team duals.

JOHNSON AND McDONALD: Kylee Johnson and Ellie McDonald follow Erin Martin and Wilson going 12-5 to date. They are 9-1 in pairs tournaments and won the Silver Bracket title at Corban's March AVCA Pairs Tournament. The duo is 3-4 in team dual competition on court five.

TEAM RECORD: Overall, the Broncos are 4-5 in team duals, four of those defeats have come at the hands of AVCA Top-20 ranked teams.

PAIRS SUCCESS: Boise State's pairs have combined for a 60-44 record overall (.577).

TALENTED FRESHMEN: The freshmen tandem of Roriann Chartier and Kaylee Mejia have the top pairs record in team duals going 5-4 overall while playing at the No. 3 position.

COACHING STAFF

HEAD COACH: Allison Voigt returns for her third season as the head coach after serving the previous two as the assistant. In her first campaign at the helm of the Broncos, Boise State recorded its best season in program history at 13-6 with notable wins over Oregon, Nebraska and Utah. Her current record stands at 18-14 overall and 4-5 in 2021.

ASSISTANT COACH: Voigt is joined by Alex Venardos who is in his second season as her assistant coach. He is a Boise State alumnus who spent his undergraduate career assisting with both the indoor and beach teams.
