Boise State Splits on Friday

FORT WORTH, Texas - Rori Chartier and Kaylee Mejia led the Broncos Friday in Fort Worth, Texas, as they swept both their matches to help Boise State to a split at the TCU Invitational on Friday falling 4-1 to the A&M-Corpus Christi before regrouping to beat Houston Baptist 3-2. Chartier and Mejia improved to 12-9 overall, while the Broncos moved to 5-6.

Boise State faced several obstacles during the opening day including having to play the first contest at 7 a.m. Mountain Time, that was followed by lightning delays in the second match. The tournament concludes on Saturday when Boise State faces Tulane and No. 7 TCU.

Boise State was led by Chartier and Meija who won their contest at the No. 3 position in a pair of tough straight sets 27-25, 21-14 over Tori Johnson and Jaylyn Porras. The Broncos were already down 3-0 when the Boise State duo won their match.

Court two saw a highly competitive encounter where Joey Benson and Sedona Hansen went to three sets before getting edged out 21-18, 13-21, 17-15.

Down one, Ellie McDonald and Kylee Johnson brought the Broncos even when they dispatched Kristen Kleymeyer and Mary Alper 21-19, 21-18. The split on the day for McDonald and Johnson improved them to 13-6 overall.

Chartier and Mejia put the Blue and Orange in the lead with their second straight-set victory of the day as they beat Natalie Bennett and Lindsay Harris 21-18, 21-12 to Boise State up 2-1.

Erin Martin and Evi Wilson made it three-straight Bronco wins to clinch the match as they put away Brennan Miller and Maddie Butters 21-11, 21-16 on court one.
