The action will begin at 9 a.m. (MT) each day and run to the early evening on Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to around 2 p.m. on Sunday.

TOURNAMENT FIELD AND FORMAT
This year's tournament will feature players from BYU, Idaho, Montana State and Portland State. The format of the tournament will divide the athletes up into pairs/doubles teams (by school) who will then compete as a team of two against other pairs in a best of three contest. Each tandem will play a doubles match before splitting to play two separate singles matches. Whichever duo wins two out of the three contests advances to face the next pair in the bracket the following day. The tournament will consist of two draws (Blue and Orange) of eight pairs.

REPRESENTING THE BRONCOS
All eight Broncos will be participating in this year's tournament.

This year's roster includes seven veterans from the 2020-21 campaign: redshirt-senior Corey Patton Lossner; juniors Joana Baptista, Ana Conde Vendrell and Holly Stewart; sophomores Nicole Discenza, Pauline Ernstberger and Shauna Heffernan; as well as true-freshman Bhakti Shah

ABOUT BARB CHANDLER
This tournament is named after Boise legend Barbara Chandler (Oct. 27, 1923-Nov. 20, 2019) who is considered the patron Saint of Tennis in the state.

The following is courtesy of the USTA Intermountain, Idaho website (www.idtennis.com).

Barbara's love affair with tennis began while she was growing up in San Francisco. In 1941 she won her first major national titles in both singles and doubles at the National Junior Hard Court Championships. She achieved a national ranking of No. 3 in the 18's singles and No. 2 in the 18's doubles. In 1946 Barbara won the National Women's Clay Court Championship and was ranked No. 6 in the nation for women's singles and No. 3 in doubles with Shirley Fry out of Northern California. Three times she reached the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open Championship. She was an Intermountain singles, doubles, and mixed doubles winner, and an Idaho State Champion every year she played (seven Intermountain singles titles from 1955-1962).

Her accomplishments both on and off the tennis court do not end there. When Barbara and her husband Bill came to Idaho in 1952, she dedicated herself to growing the sport of tennis. Barbara set about making contacts with school administrators and city officials to promote the construction of tennis courts on school grounds and in public parks. She was largely responsible for the construction of over 30 public tennis court facilities now existing in Boise. Barbara not only managed getting the courts built, but then provided lessons and programs on them to all, young and old. Barbara's legacy was the joy she brought to all generations of tennis players. A tournament in her honor (the Barbara Chandler Junior Open) is played every summer at the Boise Racquet & Swim Club. The Intermountain-Idaho section recognizes outstanding junior players who show not only promise in tennis, but are active in their community with the Barbara Chandler Junior Sportsmanship Award.
