Moortgat and Van Herzeele Lead Broncos at SMU

DALLAS, Texas – Boise State men's tennis wrapped up the 2022 fall campaign this weekend in Dallas at the SMU Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge.

The four Broncos went a combined 8-7 in singles and 4-4 in doubles.

Boise State sophomore James Van Herzeele and junior Caden Moortgat led the way in singles both going 3-1 overall. Moortgat's combined singles and doubles record was 6-2; he went 3-1 with Simon Arca Costas in doubles.

Van Herzeele won his first three contests before falling in his final match of the tournament on Sunday. He recorded wins over Ethan Muza of Baylor and two over players from SMU.

Moortgat won his three matches in straight sets with the loss going to three sets. Among his victories were a 7-5, 7-6(5) battle over SMU's Jack Winkler and a 6-3, 7-6(5) win over Baylor's Chris Frantzen.

In doubles, the tandem of Arca Costas and Moortgat went 3-1 with victories over teams from Wichita State, Baylor and SMU. Their lone loss of the tournament came Saturday in a tiebreaker to Harvard's duo of Ronan Jachuk and Steven Sun by a 7-6(7) score.

What's Next
This tournament completed the fall schedule for Boise State. The Broncos will take the rest of the semester off while preparing for the team dual season which starts in mid-January.
