SAN ANTONIO – Boise State softball swept two games during the second day of the Cardinal Invitational hosted by UIW.
The Broncos blanked UTSA 2-0 and routed UIW 16-0 behind a pair of grand slams. Boise State is off to its best start in school history through nine games.
The win over the Cardinals (3-6) tied for the largest margin of victory in program history. The Broncos (8-1) defeated Idaho State by the same 16-0 score, April 3, 2018. The 16 runs are the most by Boise State since a 22-10 win over New Mexico, April 20, 2019 and tied for the fifth-most all-time.
Boise State belted four home runs against UIW, including a grand slam each by Kelsey Lalor and Alison Seng in a game shortened to five innings by run rule.
Kelsey Hall and Bella Rocco each recorded three hits, including a home run. Hall knocked in four runs. Taylor Caudill (4-0) went the first three innings in the circle to pick up the victory.
In the opener, Hannah Bailey (3-0) posted her second shutout of the season by blanking the Roadrunners (2-7) on three hits while striking out nine.
Boise State scored both runs in the home half of the fourth. With one out, Mykenzie Hannah doubled and moved to third on a single by Bobbiann Pratt.
Pratt stole second and went to third as Hannah scored on an error by the UTSA catcher. Serena Huchingson followed with an infield single to plate Pratt.
