SPOKANE, Wash. – The Boise State track and field team recorded eight top-five finishes at the WSU Invitational in Spokane, Wash., Feb. 4-5. Sprinters Dafni Georgiou and Anita Taviore highlighted the Broncos' weekend, each breaking a school record.
After besting her own school record twice in the women's 60-meter hurdles at the Texas Tech Invitational (Jan. 28-29), Georgiou lowered it once again, registering a time of 8.24 en route to garnering the event title and setting a facility record.
"Dafni continues to impress," said Boise State Assistant Track and Field Coach Gavin O'Neal. "After last weekend's record-breaking performances, we made some adjustments in practice to sharpen her technique and we are seeing the results of her hard work. I still believe her best is yet to come."
Taviore's record came in the women's 200m dash. The freshman eclipsed her own school record (24.06), registering a time of 23.96.
"This season marks the first time Anita has ever raced indoors," said O'Neal. "I'm thrilled with how she continues to improve week by week while breaking school records. We are only experiencing the beginning of her rewriting the record book."
Sophomore Aidan Palmer garnered the Boise State men's lone individual title of the weekend, topping the podium in the 3,000m race with a personal-best time of 8:25.11.
Finishing closely behind Palmer, sophomore Ben Sherman captured the silver medal in the event (8:27.63),
Senior Kristie Schoffield finished second in the women's 800m race (2:08.07), and freshman Oakley Olson secured third in the women's 3,000m (10:17.64).
Freshmen Angus Fitzgerald and Maggie Larson notched fourth-place finishes in the men's mile and women's triple jump, respectively. Larson's mark of 12.35m is the fifth-best jump in Bronco history.
The women's 4x400m relay capped off the Blue and Orange's visit to Spokane. The quartet of Alyssa Cullen, Nyenuchi Okemgbo, Schoffield and Taviore finished third.
Next, Boise State splits its squad across three different meets. Student-athletes will travel to Massachusetts, New Mexico or Washington to compete one last time before the Mountain West Championships, Feb. 24-26.
