Broncos win two in southern California to extend wins streak to six

Boise State defeats CSUN 4-1 and Cal State LA 5-0.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Boise State beach volleyball claimed a pair of convincing victories Saturday afternoon, defeating CSUN 4-1 and Cal State LA 5-0 to extend its wins streak to six and improve to 9-6 overall. 

Four of Boise State's five pairs who competed on Saturday went undefeated at 2-0 and won both matches in straight sets; the fifth lost the lone contest in a three-set battle against CSUN.

The Broncos' top pair of Erin Martin and Yasmin Tan recorded their fifth and sixth wins of the campaign. They opened the day with a marathon set-one win 33-31 before putting the match versus CSUN away with a 21-18 set two victory. In the last contest against CSULA, the Bronco tandem rolled to a 21-16, 21-10 win. 

The No. 2 pair combination of Rorianna Chartier and Sierra Land was dominant the entire day, cruising to two quick wins 21-12, 21-15 over CSUN and 21-16, 21-13 versus CSULA. The duo is now 10-5 on the year. 

Danielle Boss and Madison Nichols improved to 8-7 overall with two straight-set wins on the day. They defeated CSUN's No. 3 pair 21-14, 21-18 and CSULA's 21-6, 21-19. 

The tandem of Joey Benson and Emilia Guerra-Acuna were the final pair to win both contests at Northridge. They opened with a 23-21, 21-8 victory at No. 5 pair against CSUN, then moved up to No. 4 pair versus CSULA to claim a commanding 21-10, 21-10 win. Benson and Guerra-Acuna are now 8-5 on the season. 

A new pair combination of Kaylee Mejia and Alyssa Wissinger finished the day 1-1 overall, falling in a hard-fought three-set match at No. 4 pair to CSUN, before rallying to win straight-sets 21-14, 21-13 against their CSULA opponents on court five. 

Boise State will continue its Spring Break in California with a drive north to San Luis Obispo. The Blue and Orange will play four contests starting with No. 10 Cal and Houston Baptist on Sunday, followed by encounters with 12th-ranked Cal Poly and Santa Clara on Monday.
