Schoffield Wins 800m in Outdoor Season Opener

SAN DIEGO – Kristie Schoffield garnered a gold-medal finish in the women's 800-meter race, as the Boise State track and field team opened its outdoor season in San Diego, Calif., at the Aztec Invitational, March 26.
The Concord, N.H., native took command of the race early, clocking a time of 2:07.66 en route to earning the Broncos' lone event victory. She bested second-place Claire Yerby of California by over two seconds.
In addition to Schoffiled's first-place finish, junior MaLeigha Menegatti and freshman Maggie Larson also recorded top-five performances.
Menegatti was the first member of the Blue and Orange to compete on the track, establishing a personal record in the women's 1,500m race with a time of 4:26.20.
Larson registered a fourth-place finish in the women's triple jump in her Boise State outdoor debut, posting a mark of 12.18m. The Maple Lake, Minn., native also placed eighth in the women's long jump.
Additionally, Bronco throwers Connor Bjornson and Devin Easley made their season debuts, competing in the men's javelin throw. Bjornson qualified for finals, finishing in eighth (52.76m), while Easley took 12th (45.24m).
Next, Boise State will split its squad across two meets in California, competing at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif., and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, Calif., April 1-2.
