Broncos Split in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – Boise State split a pair of games, Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational.
The Broncos (16-3) opened the day with a 7-1 victory over Loyola University Chicago before dropping a 5-4 decision to tournament host and ninth-ranked Arizona.
"I'm proud of the way we competed all day today," Boise State Head Coach Justin Shults said. "It had a postseason feel and that is our goal. Tomorrow will be a big test to play another competitive team and see how we respond."
Against the Ramblers (4-7), the Broncos jumped out to a 3-0 in the second inning on an RBI-triple by Jordyn Hutchins and a sacrifice fly each by Eliyah Flores and Alycia Flores.
Boise State led 4-1 after six innings and put the game away with a three-run seventh. Alison Seng belted a two-run home run, her team-leading fifth of the season, and Autumn Bennett capped the rally with a run-scoring single.
Sara Johnson (4-1) fired a two-hitter, struck out six and did not walk a batter.
The Broncos used the long ball to build a 4-0 lead against the Wildcats (13-4). Alycia Flores, Kelsey Lalor and Eliyah Flores each hit a solo home run and a fourth run came home on an error.
Arizona rallied for two runs off starter Hannah Bailey in the home half of the fifth and then completed the comeback with a three-run sixth against Taylor Caudill (6-1).
The Broncos conclude the tournament with a matchup against Texas State at 9 a.m.
