BERKELEY, Calif. – The Boise State track and field team registered 11 top-three finishes at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, April 9.
Sophomore Connor Bjornson and senior Jose Rubio each secured an event victory.
Bjornson topped the podium in the men's javelin throw, recording a mark of 55.63 meters, while Rubio won the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 53.12.
On the women's side, freshman Maggie Larson and senior Kristie Schoffield also picked up event wins for the Broncos in the triple jump and 800m race, respectively.
On her second attempt, Larson notched a personal-best mark of 12.64m, ultimately earning her the event title. Prior to this weekend, Larson's jump would have ranked first in the Mountain West.
Schoffield bested second-place Mina Anglero of California by over two seconds in the 800m race, clocking a time of 2:05.16. This marks her second event victory in as many 800m races as she has competed in this outdoor season.
The women's 4x400m relay claimed the Blue and Orange's fifth first-place finish of the day. The quartet of Alyssa Cullen, Anita Taviore, Nyenuchi Okemgbo and MaLeigha Menegatti posted a time of 3:47.31.
In addition to Boise State's five event titles, the Broncos registered three silver-medal and three bronze-medal performances. Included was a third-place finish by freshman Emily Stefan in her long jump debut.
Next, the Blue and Orange will again send its team to various meets across the state of California. Student-athletes will travel to Azusa, Calif., for the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 13-16), Walnut, Calif., for the Mt. Sac Relays (April 13-16) or Long Beach, Calif., for the Long Beach Invite (April 15-16).
