LARAMIE, Wyo. – Genevieve Crenshaw and Teryn Newkirk were named to the 2023 Mountain West All-Tournament Team, the conference announced Saturday afternoon.
Crenshaw earned the honors for her defensive efforts in the Broncos' 2-0 shutout victory over Nevada in the opening round. The goalkeeper racked up four saves against the Wolf Pack, playing the full 90 minutes of the contest. Crenshaw also recorded four saves in the overtime loss versus Utah State while playing the full 110 minutes.
"Genevieve (Crenshaw) has been the rock, the stone wall, our entire season," said head coach Jim Thomas. "She has enabled so much to go on in front of her and make us more of the attacking squad we have been in previous years. The license we were able to give to our attacking players was only due to the quality we had in goal."
Newkirk was honored for anchoring the backline, helping the Blue and Orange shut out Nevada to advance to the semifinals, and holding Utah State to a single overtime goal.
"Teryn (Newkirk) is the advanced anchor, where if Genevieve holds down the backline, then Teryn holds down the midfield," said Thomas. "The unacknowledged, unheralded work that she does has meant that we have had the season of all seasons, tying for the fewest losses in program history. She is an unbelievable defender and the heart and soul of our
program to come."
The Broncos ended their season 11-4-6 overall, with an 8-2-1 conference record, finishing tied for fewest defeats in a season in program history.
