BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's tennis went down to the wire with Utah State before coming up short 4-3 to the Aggies at the Appleton Tennis Center on Saturday. The loss moves Boise State to 18-7 overall and 3-3 in Mountain West play.
The match began with Utah State taking the team doubles point 2-0 with two hard-fought matches on courts two and three, both by 6-4 scores.
Boise State's Arca Costas tied the match score at 1-1 with his straight-set 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over USU's David Cierny.
After the Aggies had taken a 2-1 advantage, Caden Moortgat drew the Broncos even again with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court three.
Down 3-2, the Blue and Orange rallied again to tie the score at three all with James Van Herzeele's two-set 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles.
The decisive match was at No. 2 singles where Sam Sippel went three sets before coming up short 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to Bodin Zarkovic who clinched the contest for the Aggies.
