LAS VEGAS – Nicole Discenza won a second-set tiebreaker to clinch the match as Boise State women's tennis swept Utah State in the opening round of the 2023 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship, Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas.

Despite dropping the doubles point when the two teams met less than a week ago, the sixth-seeded Broncos (12-10, 4-6 MW) cruised to take the opening point over Aggies (7-14, 2-8 MW) with wins on courts two and three. Pauline Ernstberger added to the lead soon after by taking down All-MW Singles selection Zeynep Naz Ozturk in straight-sets at the No. 1 position.

Lorelyz Marruffo followed suit with a straight-set victory on court two, while Discenza took down Magdalena Nunez Pureco at the No. 5 slot to put the Broncos in the quarterfinal round.

"Today was a really great performance for our team," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "We got off to a really hot start in doubles and really tried to hit the gas pedal and not look back. Utah State is a really tough team and if you give them an inch they'll take a mile. It was a really good job by our team to get out in front and stay on them and play the way we needed to in order to find the four points on the board."
"We're looking forward to tomorrow," said Roghaar. "San Diego State is a very talented team and are well coached so we're excited to get after them tomorrow."

The Broncos earned their first victory in a conference tournament match since 2018.
