SEASON OPENING SERIES
- Boise State opens the season this weekend with a home and away series versus instate-rival Idaho State.
- The teams will open the campaign on Friday in Bronco Gym at 7 p.m. MT, then follow that up with a re-match in Pocatello at 4 p.m. on Sunday in ISU's Reed Gym.

THE BRONCOS
- Boise State is coming off a 15-14 record in 2022, its ninth consecutive winning season.
- The Broncos return four starters from 2022 in Paige Bartsch (Jr., Opp), Annie Kaminski (Sr., MB), Jordan Miller (Jr., OH), Chey Day (Sr., MB).
- Bartsch was a 2022 All-Mountain West honoree and the 2021 MW Freshman of the Year, while Kaminski was a 2022 All-MW Honorable Mention and the spring 2021 MW Newcomer of the Year.
- In all, Boise State returns nine student-athletes from last fall while adding seven newcomers, three transfers and four freshmen.
- Key newcomers are transfers Noelani Helm (Gr., S, Portland), Qairo Bentley (Gr., OH, VCU) and Breanna Mitchell (So., L, CSUN).
- The Broncos were picked by the MW coaches to place sixth out of 11 teams in the 2023 league race.
THE BENGALS
- Idaho State went 13-17 overall in 2022, its first season under head coach Sean Carter.
- The Bengals returned six players from 2022 and added nine newcomers.
- ISU was picked to place ninth out of 10 teams in the Big Sky Conference race in 2023.
THE IDAHO STATE SERIES
- The Idaho State series is the most played series in Boise State history, with Friday's match being the 70th encounter ever.
- The all-time series has been tight, with the Broncos holding a slim three-win advantage, 36-33, over the Bengals.
- Boise State leads 21-12 in meetings played at Boise, while Idaho State holds a 17-13 advantage in Pocatello.
- The team rivals met once last fall in Pocatello, where the Blue and Orange came away with a highly contested 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-23, 26-24) victory.
BRONCOS IN OPENERS
- Boise State is now 24-20 in season openers since the 1979 campaign. They are 11-5 all-time when opening at home and 13-15 when opening on the road (away and neutral).
- The Broncos are 7-7 in openers under head coach Shawn Garus.
- Last year, the Broncos won 3-0 over Saint Mary's (8/26/2022) in Boise.
HEAD COACH, SHAWN GARUS
- Boise State is in its 15th season under the direction of head coach Shawn Garus.
- The two-time MW Coach of the Year honoree is 245-173 all-time at Boise State and 360-293 in his 22-year career. Â
- The Broncos have recorded 12 winning seasons in 14 years under Garus, including an active streak of nine straight winning campaigns.
- Garus has guided the Broncos to one MW regular season title (2016), one MW Tournament title (2021), two NCAA Tournament appearances (2016, 2021) and two NIVC appearances (2017 and 2019).
