BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men's tennis opened the season by hosting the Dar Walters Invite at the Appleton Tennis Sept. 15-17. Leading the group of four Broncos competing this weekend were two true freshmen, Kyvan Rietkerk and Liam Toroman, who combined for a 6-2 record in singles over the three-day competition.

Rietkerk a native of Zoetermeer, Netherlands, went 3-1 in singles, winning all three matches in straight sets. He went 2-2 in doubles while playing with sophomore Idriss Haddouch.

Toroman, a native of Los Angeles, went 3-1 in singles during the tournament. He dominated two of his opponents, losing a combined three games on his way to impressive straight-set victories. Toroman played doubles with senior Teague Burger; they went 2-2 overall.

The Dar Walters Invite is the annual mini-dual competition where teams are divided up into groups of two or pairs. Each pair competed together throughout the competition, playing one doubles match and two singles contests against another pair; the pair that won two of the three points advanced in the bracket.

"We were excited to host this tournament with some talented collegiate tennis players," said associate head coach Daniel Hangstefer. "It was a good tournament to open the season with, our guys competed extremely hard out there. We were able to get two new guys and two returners some valuable experience this weekend as we look to the next competition. We learned a lot and we will take that back into practice this week as we work to get better.
