Broncos Face No. 4 Utes for 2024 Season-Opener

THE MEET:Â Boise State is slated to start off its 2024 campaign with a trip to Salt Lake City for a dual against No.4 Utah.

SEASON-OPENER SUCCESS:Â The Broncos are 10-4 in season-opening meets since 2016. Boise State defeated MRGC foe Southern Utah to commence the 2022 season. In their first meet of 2021, the unranked Broncos scored a 194.300 and upset No. 13 Oregon State on the road, marking the first of eight victories over top-25 teams during the 2021 season.

IN THE RANKINGS:Â Boise State came in at No. 29 in the 2024 WCGA Preseason Poll, the 13th time since 2010 the Blue and Orange have earned a preseason national ranking. The Broncos received 393 points, the only MW team to place in the top 36. San Jose State (85), Utah State (74) and Air Force (1) each received votes.

LAST SEASON:Â Boise State finished the 2023 season with a 6-12 record, including a 4-2 mark against conference opponents. Key returners for Boise State include All-American duo Courtney Blackson and Emily Lopez, along with All-MRGC beam second team honorees Emma Loyim and Adriana Popp. Blackson was crowned the national-runner up on vault, posting a 9.925, while Lopez finished 18th on the bars with a score of 9.900. Boise State was selected to an NCAA Regional Championships for the 15th-consecutive season in 2023. The Broncos defeated BYU in the opening round of competition, earning the highest first-round score (196.700) at a regional meet since the current format was adopted in 2019. The Blue and Orange scored a 196.00 and finished third at the 2023 MRGC Championships.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS:Â No. 4 Utah comes into the 2024 season off its third consecutive Pac-12 Championship and was selected to win the Pac-12 title for the fourth consecutive season by the conference's coaches.

WHAT'S NEXT:Â Boise State hits the road again, traveling to West Valley, Utah, to compete in the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad against No. 22 Arizona, No. 27 Nebraska and No. 32 North Carolina on Jan. 12.
