Broncos Look to Start 6-0 Against Weber State

WHAT'S NEXT:Â Boise State women's basketball will look to improve to 6-0 on the season with a home contest against Weber State on Sunday, Nov. 24. The game will tip off in ExtraMile Arena at 2 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on the MW Network and 670 KBOI AM.
THE OPPONENT: The Wildcats (2-3) come to the Treasure Valley for the final game of a three-game road trip and are coming off a 66-62 road victory over Nevada on Friday night. Weber State has two players scoring in double figures – Taylor Smith (11.4 ppg) and Mata Peaua (10.0 ppg). Boise State defeated the Wildcats 76-47 in ExtraMile Arena a season ago, and boasts a 26-21 all-time series advantage. The contest also marks the return of former Bronco Kaitlin Burgess, who played for Boise State from 2021-24.
STARTING STRONG:Â The Broncos have started the year 5-0 for the first time since the 2020-21 season, and will look to start the season with six consecutive wins for the seventh time in program history and the third under head coach Gordy Presnell. The last time Boise State won its first six games was in 2016-17, when the squad won its first eight.
LAST TIME OUT:Â Boise State outlasted San Francisco, 59-57, in a neutral-site contest at Chase Center on Thursday. Dani Bayes converted a floater with 40 seconds left and the Broncos made a pair of defensive stops down the stretch to seal the victory. Tatum Thompson recorded team-highs in points (12) and rebounds (8) in the win.
ON A ROLL:Â Thompson has been on a tear to start the season. The junior has scored in double figures in her previous three games, and recorded her first career double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds) on Monday against College of Idaho. The Woodinville, Wash., native is currently averaging 10.8 points and 6.4 rebounds on the year and is converting 88.9% (16-of-18) of her free throw attempts.
DEFENSIVE EFFICIENCY:Â The Broncos rank in the top five defensively across the nation in two categories. Boise State is third in the nation in 3-point percentage defense as opposing teams shoot 17.9% from beyond the arc. The Blue and Orange also rank fourth as a team in blocks per game (7.4), while individually Abby Muse ranks third in blocks per game (4.0) and fourth in total blocks (20).
CAUSING A SCENE:Â Boise State forced 21 San Francisco turnovers on Thursday, marking the third time this season the team forced 20+ turnovers. Last season, the Broncos did so four times on the entire season, including 23 against Weber State.
ON TAP:Â Boise State will head to Fort Myers, Fla. for the Gulf Coast Showcase, Nov. 29-Dec. 1. The Broncos will open the tournament against Illinois State at 9 a.m. MT on Friday, Nov. 29. All games will be broadcast on FloSports and 670 KBOI AM.
