BOISE, Idaho – After more than 40+ seasons and approximately 1,275 games as public address announcer for the Boise State men's and women's basketball teams, KJ Mac will retire following the 2023-24 basketball season director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced Friday. Both teams will recognize KJ with on-court presentations and special in-game tributes to thank and celebrate his tenure, (women, Feb. 24) and (men, March 2).

"We have been so fortunate to have KJ narrate some of the greatest moments in Bronco basketball history," said Dickey. "Our sincere thanks for his dedication and passion for the Broncos."

Known for his iconic delivery, Mac began announcing men's basketball games in 1979 and then added women's basketball in 1984. He has been an instrumental part of Bronco basketball ever since.

"KJ has been a permanent figure not only for Boise State basketball, but the community as well," said women's basketball head coach Gordy Presnell. "He develops a connectivity between our players and staff and becomes invested in their success. We're going to miss seeing him on a weekly basis and I want to wish him the best in his next adventure."

Boise State Hall of Famer (1996-99) and current men's basketball assistant coach Roberto Bergersen fondly remembers KJ's impact on him.

"When I was on campus and playing here, I always saw KJ and got to know him and his family really well," said Bergesen. "He knew the players and had a big impact on me and my time at Boise State. Every single time we had a game and you envisioned playing, you could hear KJ's voice. He's a wonderful guy who is continuously uplifting, bringing energy, and will always have a spot in my heart."

"It has been an honor and privilege to be involved with Bronco basketball for such a long time," said Mac. "I will miss the excitement and roar of the crowds, but will always bleed BLUE."

He is one of the longest-tenured on-air radio personalities in the Boise market and was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Idaho State Broadcasters Association in 2021. He will continue to serve as program director and on-air personality for 101.5 KOOL-FM.

"I will miss the people the most," said Mac.  "Everyone from the Athletic department, the marketing people, front office, and especially those who work at  ExtraMile Arena, it will certainly be a bittersweet day when I say goodbye."

"Congrats on the 40+ years KJ," concluded Berenson. "It's been a great run and you've meant a lot to myself, my family and every single Bronco who has been associated with this program and the whole town of Boise. Thank you for everything you've done for us."

Tickets are still available for all remaining home games.
