EVENT

Boise State beach volleyball will compete at the Pepperdine Classic, March 1-2, in Malibu, Calif. The Broncos will open against Pepperdine at 10 a.m. MT on Friday, March 1, followed by a rematch against No. 20 Arizona at 4 p.m. MT. Boise State will end the two-day event with duals against San Francisco and Vanguard.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

The Broncos will be facing two teams that are either ranked or are receiving votes in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll. Pepperdine is receiving 15 votes in the latest rankings, while Arizona, who defeated the Broncos 3-2 at the Cactus Classic on Feb. 24, moved up to the No. 20 position. On top of a rematch against the Wildcats, Boise State will also face San Francisco for the second time on the year after defeating the Dons 5-0 last weekend.

LAST TIME OUT

Boise State opened 4-2 during its first weekend of competition on the season. The Broncos finished 3-1 at the Cactus Classic, defeating Cal State Bakersfield, Colorado Mesa and San Francisco before falling to Arizona. The Blue and Orange completed the weekend at the Grand Canyon Tournament, defeating UAB before narrowly dropping a dual to No. 14 Grand Canyon, 3-2.

NEW TOP DOG

Sierra Land went 4-2 on the top court during the opening weekend, breaking the program record for most career wins on court one. The senior has won 21 matches at the top position in her career, breaking the previous record of 19 wins set by Erin Martin (2020-22). Land sits at fourth place on the program's all-time wins list with 47 career wins.

HOT START

Four of the five Bronco pairs opened the 2024 season with a winning record. Elli Wolthuis and Sharli O'Neil had the best weekend on the squad, finishing 5-1 on court five. Three pairs finished 4-2 - Marlayna Bullington and Sierra Land on court one, Ava Anderson and Emilia Guerra-Acuña on court three and Mya Jackson and Addison Wolden on court four.

RECEIVING VOTES

The Broncos are receiving three votes in the latest iteration of the AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll. Fellow Southland Conference member Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sits ahead of the Broncos in the poll with eight votes.
