TEMPE, Ariz. – Boise State's men's tennis team came up on the short end of a 4-3 score as the 23rd-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils held off the Broncos on the opening day of the Diablo College Tennis Invitational at the Kiwanis Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz., on Friday.

The Sun Devils took the early lead winning the doubles point 2-0 with victories on courts two and three respectively.

After ASU claimed the first two singles matches and the Broncos trailing 3-0, Boise State rallied.

The Blue and Orange won the next three contests to pull even with the Sun Devils. Idriss Haddouch started the rally with a come-from-behind three-set 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

Next off the court for Boise State was Jett Middleton at No. 4 singles. Middleton won a hard-fought match in straight sets 6-4 and 6-4 over ASU's Jacob Bullard.

The final Bronco victory was on court five where John Chin put away the Sun Devils' Roi Ginat in two sets 6-4, 6-4.

The decisive match came at No. 2 singles, where Arizona State's Bor Artnak – ranked 105 nationally – edged Boise State's 43rd-ranked Sam Sippel in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to claim the win for ASU.
Boise State will be back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. MT against 51st-ranked Liberty on the second day of action at the Diablo College Tennis Invitational. The Flames lost 4-0 to No. 15 Michigan State on Friday.

- Middleton extended his team-high for singles victories to 15 against the Sun Devils as he improved to 15-8 overall and 7-3 in team duals.
- Haddouch won his ninth singles match of the year and moved to 5-1 in duals this spring.
- Chin also claimed his ninth singles victory of the season to improve to 9-8 overall and 5-3 in duals.
