Broncs Extend Winning Streak to Eight Games

BOISE, Idaho – Sophia Knight collected three hits and Sydney Groves blasted a grand slam to lead Boise State to a 10-3 victory over Santa Clara at the City of Trees Classic, Sunday.

The win was the eighth straight for Boise State (19-10) as the host Broncos completed the weekend 4-0. Santa Clara (16-11) splits its four games in Boise during the event.

"It was a very good weekend of softball for us," head coach Justin Shults said. "We have a challenging road trip coming up and we are going to need to be at our best moving into conference play."

Boise State jumped out to a 2-0 lead on run-scoring singles by MyKenzie Hanna in the first inning and Keely Goushá in the second.

Santa Clara tied the game in the third and pushed across a run in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.

Jordyn Hutchins and Hollie Farmer opened the bottom of the fourth with singles and moved up on a sacrifice by Abby Bumcrot.

Leah McAnally then came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit, three-run home run that gave Boise State a 5-3 lead.

Boise State added another run in the inning as Knight singled and eventually came home on a wild pitch.

Boise State's rally made a winner out of starter Abby Dowell (5-2). Taylor Caudill recorded the final-six outs for her first save.

Groves put the game out of reach in the sixth with her Mountain West-leading 12th home run of the season.
