NEW ORLEANS – Boise State beach volleyball completed a successful weekend at the Southland Conference Midseason Tournament, finishing 5-1 at the three-day event.

The Broncos (19-8, 6-1 SLC) finished conference play with the second-best record and earned a No. 2 seed at the SLC Beach Volleyball Championship. The three-day event will take place April 21-23 in Houston, Texas, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships.

Boise State started the weekend out strong against Houston Christian, taking straight-set wins on courts two, four and five to clinch the match. Marlayna Bullington and Sierra Land pulled out a thriller on court one, winning 23-21, 17-21, 17-15 to clinch a 4-1 victory over the Huskies. The Broncos finished the first day of competition with five straight-set victories to secure a 5-0 sweep over New Orleans.

The Blue and Orange opened Saturday morning with a rematch of last season's SLC Championship, facing off against No. 20 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Addison Wolden and Abbie Wolf picked up a straight-set victory to give the Broncos an early lead, but the Islanders responded on the top court to tie the dual at one. After Boise State dropped a point on court five, Ava Anderson and Emilia Guerra-Acuña won a three-set thriller, 20-22, 21-18, 16-14 to tie the contest at two. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi prevailed with a tight match on court three, winning 19-21, 21-13, 16-14 to clinch the victory.

The Broncos responded with another sweep, this time over Nicholls State. All but one match was settled in straight-sets as the Blue and Oragne cruised to their third victory on the weekend.

Quotables

"We had a good weekend. We got better with each match that we played. They gave everything they had and fought for every point. We were a No. 3 seed last year so to grab a No. 2 seed shows the improvement. We're making strides and we're in a good place as we continue to improve this last month of the season." – head coach Allison Voigt

"Obviously we would have liked to have won the whole thing. It was good for us to learn some lessons. Those little points are important and can make or break the match in tight sets. We need to keep having a sense of urgency. We need to have a sense of confidence when we're in those little moments. That's the thing that we have to rely on." - Voigt

"We're excited to play at home this weekend in front of our fans and show how hard we've been working this spring. We have a lot of amazing players that are working hard and playing hard all the time. Our program keeps improving and I'm excited to showcase that in front of good competition. We want to make sure we send off our seniors well." - Voigt
