Broncos Fall to Spartans in Opening Round of Mountain West Women’s Tennis Championship

LAS VEGAS – Boise State women's tennis lost to San Jose State 4-3 in the opening round of the Mountain West Championship, Wednesday afternoon.
The Broncos (8-12, 4-6 MW) jumped out to an early lead over the Spartans (13-7, 4-5 MW) after clinching the doubles point. Pauline Ernstberger and Shauna Heffernan claimed the first victory on court one, defeating Irena Muradyan and Cheuk Ying Shek 6-1. San Jose State won next on court two, but Boise State responded on court three as Ana Conde Vendrell and Nicole Discenza defeated Duru Durgun and Rozalina Youseva 6-4.
Joana Baptista won the first singles match of the day, beating Ying Shek 6-2, 6-1 on court three. Discenza also won in straight sets, claiming victory on court five over Jovana Babic 7-5, 6-2. San Jose State won the next four matches to clinch the overall victory 4-3.
