Broncos Home at Last, Host the Boise State Classic

The Boise State volleyball team has been on the road for the season's first two weeks. This week, the Broncos will host the Boise State Classic featuring CSU Bakersfield, Idaho State and Gonzaga Friday through Sunday in Bronco Gym.

Need to Know / Notables

  • FRIDAY: Friday will feature three matches, with the first starting at 10:30 a.m. between CSUB and Idaho State. Then, at 5 p.m., Gonzaga and Idaho State will square off, followed by CSUB and Boise State at approximately 7:30 p.m.
  • SATURDAY: On Saturday, there will be two contests. The action starts with CSUB taking on Gonzaga at 9 a.m., followed by Idaho State and Boise State at 1 p.m.
  • SUNDAY: Boise State will wrap up the Classic when the Broncos face the Gonzaga Bulldogs at noon in the tournament's final match.
  • PARKING: Parking for the tournament will be in the west stadium parking lot next to Bronco Gym.

  • LAST WEEK: The Blue and Orange went 2-1 last weekend at the Ellesyn Invitational at Missoula, Montana. The Broncos defeated the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 3-0, then fell 3-0 to Utah Valley, followed by a sweep of the Montana Grizzlies. Annie Kaminski was named to the all-tournament team for leading the Broncos by hitting .489 percent with 27 kills, 14 blocks and 34 points.
  • TOP BRONCOS: On the year, Boise State is led by senior Paige Bartsch; the Helena, Mont., native is averaging 3.58 kills (5th MW), 0.42 service aces (t-7th MW), and 4.34 points per set (5th MW). Sixth year, Annie Kaminski is hitting .473 percent (4th MW) and averaging 2.68 kills, a team-high 1.16 blocks (8th MW) and 3.26 points per set.
  • BOISE STATE AS A TEAM: The Broncos are fifth in the MW for hitting percentage at .239, fifth in opponent hitting percentage at .208, third in kills per set at 13.84, second in assists at 13.00, fifth in blocks at 2.29 and first in service aces at 2.42.
  • MW FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Boise State freshman Kiki Remensperger was named the MW Freshman of the Week on Sept. 2 for her performance at the Cactus Classic in Tucson, Arizona, where she recorded two double-doubles.
  • WHAT IS BACK: Boise State returns 12 veterans from the 2023 season, including 11 letterwinners and one redshirt freshman.
  • WHAT STARTERS ARE BACK: The Blue and Orange returns four starters and the libero from last fall: Paige Bartsch (Sr., OH), Annie Kaminski (6th year, MB), Kiersten Van Kirk (Jr., OPP), Anabel Kotzakov (Jr., OH) and two junior liberos in Breanna Mitchell and Bella McGirr.
  • WHAT'S NEW: The Broncos added four talented freshmen to the roster, including Katelyn Van Kirk (OH), Lilli Etter (S), Kiki Remensperger (S), and Eliza Sharp (MB).  
  • PRESEASON MW HONORS: Paige Bartsch, the MW Co-Player of the Year in 2023, was named the 2024 MW Preseason Player of the Year for the second time (2022, 2024) in her career.
  • OTHERS 2023 HONOREES BACK: Annie Kaminski was an All-MW honoree last fall, along with Bartsch.
  • MW PRESEASON POLL: The MW coaches picked the Blue and Orange to finish third in this year's league race behind Colorado State and Utah State.
  • BARTSCH IN 2023: The 2023 AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honoree started all 29 contests last year and finished the season leading the MW in eight statistical categories: kills (530), kills per set (5.05), attacks (1,349), attacks per set (12.85), service aces (52), service aces per set (0.50), points (614.5) and points per set (5.85). In addition, the Helena, Mont., native was ranked in the top 14 nationally in all eight categories: second for points per set, fifth for kills per set and attacks per set, eighth for points, 10th for kills, and 14th for attacks, service aces per set and total service aces.
  • KAMINSKI LAST YEAR: Annie Kaminski led the team and ranked seventh in the MW last year for hitting percentage at .333 and blocks per set at 1.03.
