BOISE, Idaho — Boise State men's tennis opened the 2024 fall campaign this week by sending representatives to the Dar Walters Classic in Boise and the Battle of the Bay in San Francisco.
Dylan Jaen and Adam Duda represented the Broncos at the Dar Walters Classic – the lone home competition of the fall – where the freshmen experienced mixed results.
They finished the weekend 2-3 as a pair, winning their first match 2-1 over Montana State's Dmitry Bezborodov and Nishant Dabas. The Boise State tandem won the doubles match 7-6(5), while Duda claimed his singles contest in three sets to clinch the team's victory and advance to the second round.
Duda and Jaen came up short in their next two encounters before regrouping to beat the BYU tandem of Hardy Owen and Tygen Goldammer 2-1. The Broncos won the doubles contest while Jaen won his singles match. On Sunday, the pair fell to Portland's Tom Garcia and Lucas Kimelman, 2-1. Jaen picked up another singles win, defeating Kimelman in three sets.
Jett Middleton and Lukas Velik traveled to San Francisco for the Battle of the Bay, where they faced some top-level competition.
Middleton opened singles against the No. 1 ranked player in the nation, Ozan Baris of Michigan State, falling in two sets 6-3, 6-4. He later faced three Big12 opponents, falling to Arizona's Casper Christensen before regrouping to beat Arizona State's Roi Ginat in straight sets and Arizona's Zoran Ludoski 6-3, 6-7(8), 1-0(3).
