Broncos’ Rally Attempt Comes Up Short at No. 5 Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Boise State men's tennis came up short Saturday morning in Charlottesville, Virginia, as the Broncos fell 4-2 to fifth-ranked Virginia in the opening round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend tournament.
Trailing 3-0, the Blue and Orange rallied back to within one at 3-2 following singles victories by John Chin, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, followed by Jett Middleton's rally on court one for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 win. Both victories came over nationally ranked players.
Chin controlled his contest from the start as he cruised past UVA's Mans Dahlberg – ranked 86th nationally – for Boise State's first point.
Middleton dropped his first set 6-4, then cruised in the final two sets in dominating fashion to beat Virginia's No. 1 singles player Dylan Dietrich – ranked 57th nationally – with a pair of 6-1 victories in the second and third sets. That proved to be the final point for Boise State as Virginia held on for the win.
