Broncos Cruise Past VCU at ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Boise State men's tennis cruised to a 4-0 victory over VCU on Sunday on the final day of the ITA Kickoff Weekend tournament in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was a solid bounce back following the 4-2 loss to No. 5 Virginia on Saturday to even the Broncos' record at 1-1.

Boise State opened the match by taking the team doubles point 2-0 with victories by Dylan Jaen and Julius Seifert 6-4 on court two, followed by Carson Baker and Jett Middleton at No. 1 singles, winning 7-5.

Boise State was handed an early 2-0 lead when VCU forfeited at No. 2 singles. The lead grew to 3-0 and within one of victory following a straight-set victory, 6-4, 6-0, by John Chin on court five.

Taiyo Kurata brought the match home, clinching the victory with a straight-set victory at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 6-4.

Notables

Taiyo Kurata recorded his first team dual action at Boise State. He was a transfer from Idaho during the summer of 2024.
